Nokia N96 launched in India

N96 ImageNokia, leader in mobile devices, on Tuesday launched its most advanced multimedia device N96 in India. N96 will be available in the market from September 15 with price tag of Rs 34,999. N96 has memory of 16GB that can be increased to 24GB with an optional microSD card. The N96 can store upto 18,000 songs, up to 20,000 images at 5 mega pixel, upto 60 hours of video or full length movies and has 2.8″ screen with multimedia buttons. N96 Web browser with mini map feature

N96 has a new feature called “Live Mobile TV”. It uses DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting - Handhelds) technology, which gives access to the world of live TV with few clicks. Program guides and reminders tell you what’s showing and help you tune in on time. The N96 web browser includes a mini map, using this u find the section on the page and click to joom the contents of that section.

It has enhanced navigation with integrated A-GPS (Assisted GPS receiver). The compaltible computer can be used with n96, which calculates your current position faster than a standard built-in GPS receiver. When used with nokia MAP, A-GPS can help you get connected promptly, even in cities where tall buildings offten impair satellite signal connections. Enhanced navigation is a separete service from integrated A-GPS.

Major differences between N95 and N96

  • 16GB of integrated memory (as opposed to 8GB for N95 8GB), plus further extensibility via microSD memory card
  • 2.8 inch display with 16 million colours (same as N95 8GB, versus 2.6″ display for original N95)
  • Camera flash is a dual-LED in the N96 while it is only a single LED in the N95
  • Longer music playback time (14 hrs) and video playback time (5 hrs)
  • Mobile TV DVB-H receiver is built into N96
  • S60 3rd Edition is upgraded from Feature Pack 1 to Feature Pack 2
  • N96 is a dual-band HSDPA (900 and 2100 MHz) while N95 was a single band (2100)
  • Thinner and lighter than N95 8GB
  • No infra-red port on N96
  • CPU downgraded to ARM9 264MHz for N96
  • No Hardware 3D graphics accelerator for N96
